WATCH THE ORECK AIR PURIFIER TESTIMONIAL VIDEO BELOW...
The Oreck has been the #1 selling air purifier in the U.S. now for many years. This doesn't necessarily equate to it being the best air purifier, or the best value, but it is the most marketed and familiar due to the infomercials. I've had many consumers argue with me about it's quality, simply because the infomercial did a good job.
In this Oreck air purifier testimonial I focused on the newer version called the Oreck Proshield Plus Air Purifier. The Oreck Proshield has replaced the Oreck XL which now adds Ultraviolet light to the technology.
The main feature is still the Truman Cell technology, which is simply the brand name for Oreck's version of "electrostatic plates". This is nothing new, unique, or unusual to air purifiers. Why is it called "Truman"? My only guess (after my patent research) is Harry Truman, the U.S. President who supported nuclear submarine development. Oreck claims it is the same technology used on subs. I should have asked David Oreck that question when he was in China recently at the factory. Electrostatic (as seen in the video) is just positive and negative metal plates which will attract charged pollution.
My opinion is that the Oreck is over-priced because of the infomercial costs, and because . When you watch an Oreck Air Purifier Testimonial on TV it doesn't represent the experts in the field.
(The video shows you inside the Oreck. My conclusion is at the bottom of the review…)
Stage 1 A washable pre-filter for dust (you can see all filters in the video)
Stage 2 A small carbon-filter for odors (must be replaced every 3 months)

Stage 5 UV light for germs and viruses
2 - No HEPA filter - best for dust and pollen)

I don't recommend buying an Oreck air purifier, and especially not for any kind of allergies since it does not have a HEPA filter. The only instance might be for smokers, who can get a used one off of ebay.
