Ionic Breeze GP Air Purifier

Retail Price: $499.95

The Ionic Breeze GP Air Purifier - made by Sharper Image (and not currently available on Amazon, is an "after-the-fact" model which was designed after Sharper Image went out of business. It features some improvements over the earlier ionic breeze models but the story behind it can teach us a lot about the air purifier industry.

The fall of Sharper Image Company (who make the ionic breeze gp air purifier )came after the Ionic Breeze was removed from the market for creating too much Ozone which can cause lung problems. The Ionic Breeze Air Purifier at that time was creating enough income from infomercials that Sharper Image was able to maintain the stores and catalogs which were losing money.

The video below explains more of the story and the problems with ozone…

Review of the Ionic Breeze GP Air Purifier

Now let's move forward with a review of this machine…

One of the claims of the Ionic Breeze GP Air Purifier is that it uses very little electricity and it is very quiet. Both of these claims are true, however the benefits may be offset by the weaknesses of this approach.

This air purifier does not have a fan. So how does it clean the room without a fan? It depends on the natural circulation of air (if any) already existing in the room. The use of washable plates, charged with negative and positive ions, will attract some of the odors and smoke in the air. You won't see much said about dust because this type of technology simply does not garb or hold dust very well. For dust you need a HEPA filter.

Stages of Purification

Now let's take a look at the filters and technology for cleaning the air. The Ionic Breeze GP Air Purifier has 2 stages:

Stage 1 Ionic Plates - washable charged plates which can attract and hold pollution, a limited amount of dust, while killing some odors and smoke.

Stage 2 UV light - Ultraviolet light will kill germs, viruses and bacteria in the air.

Pros and Cons

1 - Inexpensive to run and maintain

2 - No replacement filters

3 - Quiet

4 - Includes UV light for germs

1 - Cost is very high at $499 (with no HEPA)

2 - Doesn't do well for dust or pollen

3 - No fan = limited square footage

4 - Not recommended for allergies or asthma

5 - May create harmful ozone

If you are a smoker, then this might be a consideration. But at $499 (even for the $219 refurbished prices you find) this is not one of the better air purifier models on the market. It does not do well on dust, pollen, and without a fan has limited range for square footage.

You'll find many better choices on the comparison chart below and in the many reviews on this website.

UPDATE; I'm not sure if the ionic breeze is even sold anymore as I haven't seen it in some time.

You'll find the ionic breeze brand non-existant so I'm not sure if the warranty will ever be recognized or whether you can get any service on them or not.
