Austin Air Purifiers Reviewed

Price $519 (HEPA). (Or $579.90 when Carbon is included)

Austin Air Purifiers are the last remaining air purifier produced and manufactured in the U.S. It features a sturdy outer sheath made of steel and while primarily a well-made HEPA air purifier it has 3 more technologies. Having owned many Austin Air Purifiers I will stress that they look and operate the same as they did years ago. There are pro's and con's to that fact. The pro is that it has a stellar reputation. The con is that it has failed to keep up with other models that include more technologies like UV to kill viruses and germs.

In the video below I take apart my Austin Air Purifier. After the video the review (along with spec sheets and ratings) continues.

4 Stages of Cleaning Power

Purifiers:

1 - HEPA - Preferred for allergies because it grabs and retains pollen, hair, and dust particles.

2 - PreFilters - A pre-filter grabs large particles like hair and dust. It extends the life of the HEPA filter. The Austin version is a good pre-filter, although I would prefer they had a washable filter like many other brands now offer.

3 - Activate carbon - This is an optional filter and it grabs and retains odors, gases and chemical fumes. Especially important for people with chemical sensitivities. Quite pricey to replace every 9-12 months it is none the less a very hefty size filter making it better than most you;ll find.

4 - Zeolite - Very similar to carbon it was nice to see someone add Zeolite for it's ability to absorb chemicals from the air.

Pros and Cons

Conclusion

So when do I recommend Austin Air Purifiers? I suggest it in cases where people suffer with emphysema and extreme chemical sensitivity. This is because the Austin Air Purifiers, while much more expensive, do have bigger HEPA filters than most air purifiers on the market. This means that the HEPA air filter will do a better job at removing more of the particles in the air (such as dust, pollen, animal dander, etc.) But for most allergy sufferers, and for most homes, I recommend more modern brands.
