Austin Air Purifier Review and Test Results

The Austin Air Purifier is a model I recommend for people with environmental sensitivities. It is the last American made model and while the filters (and the purifier itself) is rather expensive the HEPA and carbon or Zeolite is very thick and good for removing small particles

Stages of Purification

1 - HEPA - recommended by Doctors HEPA is the best for allergies.

2 - A Pre-Filter - Like a screen door the pre-filter gathers large particles like hair and dust which extends the life of the HEPA. More modern air purifiers have washable pre-filters.

3 - Carbon - If you include the good sized carbon filter (optional) you'll also have additional protection from gases, odors and fumes. Although a bit pricey to replace it is one of the larger carbon filters on the market.

4 - Zeolite - Similar to carbon zeolite absorbs gases. Zeolite is a mineral found in volcanic ash. It is often used in cat litter to absorbs odor.

Pros and Cons

1 - Only one made in the U.S.A.

Austin Air Purifier Conclusion

If you have severe asthma, allergies, or chemical sensitivities I recommend the Austin Air Machines. More expensive than most, it has above average HEPA and Carbon/Zeolite filters for those people who are very sensitive. However it lacks germ/bacteria/virus-fighting technology. For most average homes I would save money (and electricity) and go for an air purifier which include more technologies like UV.
