Air Health UV Air Purifier Review



My introduction to an air health UV Air purifier happened in 1968 when I was 12 years old. Because of severe asthma, allergies and immune system problems (I was sick a lot as a child) I had pursued all types of air purifiers looking for help with my problems. I already had a HEPA air purifier, a negative ionizer, and an electrostatic machine.

I was told then that Ultraviolet light (UV), if it is in the right frequency, has the ability to kill many germs, bacteria and some viruses. I knew that hospitals were using them,the idea of killing immune system threats like germs and viruses was something I definitely needed.

However it did not, and does not, replace a HEPA filters ability to remove particles in the air which carry many of the germs, bacteria and viruses we want to kill.

So What is UV Light?

The term UV, or ultraviolet light comes from the location of the rays in the visible color spectrum. If you were to look at the colors of a rainbow, or through a prism, the red part is where infrared wavelengths are found (note the word "red" exists in infraRED).

Where you see violet, ultraviolet rays exist. UV rays are further broken down into three types: UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C. In small amounts, humans can benefit from UV-A, followed by a little from UV-B, and no benefit from UV-C.

For the Skin

The UV-A type is what creates a tan. It also stimulates the production of vitamin D. Vitamin D3 helps the absorption of calcium and other minerals from food (that's why you see it added to milk). It also affects mood. Myself, I take extra Vitamin D (5k a day) in the winter because it helps with mood and because there is less UV exposure since I'm indoors more and the days are shorter.

UV-A is present even on cloudy days and even in winter. But when it comes to UV for an air purifier it's only UV-B that matters.

Because of this UV-B is used in many hospitals to sterilize tools like scalpels. UV-B light can also help treat certain diseases like TB and psoriasis. In 1903, a Nobel Price was awarded to Niels Finsen for using UV-B to treat skin lesions caused by tuberculosis. A recent study also showed that 80% of those suffering from psoriasis improved after being exposed to UV light.

New Nanotechnology Improves UV 1000%

One new advancement to UV is a new nanotechnology called Tio2 (which stands for Titanium Dioxide). When UV light is exposed to Tio2 it creates a magnification of the UV effect on germs, bacteria and viruses, helping to kill and destroy these immune system invaders. The effect is said to be up to 1000 times the effect of UV alone.

While a home UV air purifier is a necessary addition to anyone seeking a cleaner environment my suggestion is to get an air purifier with UV, Tio2 (to enhance UV), along with HEPA (to remove dust and pollen) and negative ions (to kill mold) to eradicate more of the immune system threats and to minimize the particles in the air (namely dust and pollen) that are known to carry germs and viruses in the air.
